THAYER'S GULL Larus (glaucoides) thayeri

Still the subject of taxonomic debate which swings back and forth, this bird remains very hard to distinguish from Kumlien's & Iceland Gulls in immature plumage, not to mention numerous hybrid birds of other taxa in its areas of occurence. Adults are somewhat more distinctive, the strawberry pink legs being one of the more noticeable features. A few records exist for the UK (left-hand bird) but more may have gone unidentified.
