SILVER GULL Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae

The common gull of Australia, New Zealand & New Caledonia, this is the bird which gets injured at cricket matches!. The New Zealand birds, of which the two right-hand birds are representative, are now sometimes split as Red-billed Gull, Larus scopulinus, there being slight morphological differences, as well as some evidence of a divergent evolutionary pathway. Gregarious birds, they are often found inland as well as coastally.
