GREY-HEADED GULL Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus

Found in the southern part of Africa and central South America, a quite distinctive bird in breeding plumage. In other plumages the pale eye and wing patterns are diagnostic. Whilst the African race is quite common and widespread South American birds are uncommon and local. Surely a candidate for a split, I've photographed one just in case (right-hand bird).
