LAVA HERON Butorides sundevalli

Once lumped with Striated Heron, this dark-plumaged taxon is only found on Galapagos, and is now a full species as is the case with many geographically isolated forms. It has recently been split on the new Avilist, so will probably remain so. Although Striated Heron has been recorded on Galapagos, there seem to be no extralimital reports of Lava Heron.
