WHITE-NECKED PETREL Pterodroma cervicalis

Originally lumped with Juan Fernandez Petrel, this bird breeds only on the Kermadecs north of New Zealand. A third species, Vanuatu Petrel, has also been described from further North and West in the Pacific, but all three are similar. A large bird, it lacks the vigorous flight of the smaller members of the genus, but is a beautifully plumaged, striking species. Although not a ship-follower it seems happy to approach closely.
