WHITE-CHINNED PETREL Procellaria aequinoctialis

The most widespread and also commonest Procellaria breeding on many subantarctic islands and dispersing north up the Humboldt and Benguela Currents. Although numbers are much higher than the previous species it is listed as Vulnerable. The name is somewhat of a misnomer, since the white chin is often absent or so small as to be invisible. The centre photo was previously identified as a Spectacled Petrel, but more recent literature indicates that some White-chinned can have more white, but always show a dark forehead, whereas Spectacled always has some white on the forehead.
