PERUVIAN DIVING PETREL Pelecanoides garnotii

Four species of diving-petrel have evolved to frustrate birders and photographers, due to their habit of flying short distances and diving straight under the surface. Almost impossible to distinguish at sea, due to such brief views, and the fact that three of the four overlap in ranges. These birds were photographed in the Humboldt Current, where they may overlap with Magellanic in the south of their range, but in an area where it is the only diving-petrel, so identification is fairly certain.
