HEINROTH'S SHEARWATER Puffinus heinrothi

Once part of the "Audubon complex" this species varies far more plumage-wise, and dark and intermediate morphs predominate, its closest relationships may be with other genera. Listed as vulnerable, it is little-known, no nests have been found but they are thought to breed on Bougainville and islands of the Solomons. We were lucky enough to see a few when passing through those waters on the South-west Pacific Odyssey, but they always kept their distance, however at the time there were very few at sea photos.
