TRISTAN & FALKLAND SKUAS Stercorarius (antarcticus) hamiltoni/antarcticus

The aforementioned (sub)species of Brown Skua. The vernacular names are not precise, since hamiltoni breeds on Tristan, Gough, and Amsterdam and St Paul in the Indian Ocean, and is seemingly completely sedentary. The nominate race, now known as Falkland Skua, is confined to Chubut and Santa Cruz provinces in se Argentina and the Falkland Islands, dispersing as far as Tierra del Fuego. The main page photo and the left hand shot are hamiltoni, the others are the nominate race. Differences are relatively minor, but it seems no hybridisation has been reported.
