Overlapping only with Great Frigatebird except for small populations at Martin Vaz, Trinidade Islands and Christmas Islands, the male of this species shows a diagnostic white "spur" on the axilliaries.Immature plumages can be more difficult to seperate, lesser is actually smaller but the wingspan is only slightly less, so size, unless the two species are seen together, is not helpful. |
