SORA Porzana carolina.

Breeding over most of the USA and wintering in Central and South America, this would be thought an unlikely vagrant, as it scarcely looks capable of flying to the next wetland. However, there are several records in the UK although timing is erratic to say the least. Equally, some birds must be overlooked because the species natural behaviour is to keep out of sight in wetland vegetation. If out in the open it will often take no notice of an observer, but equally may quickly return to foraging in the reeds.

I've photographed three Soras in the UK, the Pagham Harbour bird was the first twitchable one since the 1920's. They are just as hit and miss abroad, the wintering bird in Bermuda walked the edge of the reeds, whereas the Texas one refused to come out any further.
