WHITE-HEADED LAPWING Vanellus albiceps

A somewhat rare species, this striking plover is found mainly near West and Central African rivers, and is rarely seen away from water. Highly aggresive but rarely allows a close approach, as this (blown up) photo will indicate. Nesting on sandbars and exposed shingle, they are sedentary, only moving to higher areas to avoid floodwater.
