These photos are of the Western race taken in Oregon and California,
which according to many US birders is a potential split, hence the two races appearing here. It seems
that the split will eventually happen, the western bird is much plainer, but the taxonomists are
currently taking sides. Despite this unfinished business, both have been re-classified as Tringa.
