Another rare vagrant to Britain, this time from the East and slightly more regular in its occurence, probably partly due to the fact it breeds as closely as Scandinavia, and numbers in Finland are on the increase. It also breeds across most of northern Russia and Siberia, wintering on coasts from West Africa to Australia. At one time placed in its own genus, possibly due to the upturned bill, it has now been deemed a Tringa.
