SPOTTED REDSHANK Tringa erythropus

Not that closely related to Redshank, and breeding further north on the whole, a beautiful wader in breeding and full winter plumage, but often seen in intermediate stages in Britain. Birds often linger at migration sites for long periods, but never seem to breed here. Wintering from the UK to West Afica, our passage migrants start to re-appear at the end of June, and the species can be seen in any month. Possibly some young birds over-summer without breeding.
