SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER Charadrius semipalmatus

PREVIOUS

The Nearctic equivalent of our Ringed Plover, although not uncommon it is an extremely rare vagrant to Europe, these shots being of the second, and most recent, British record. It may be overlooked, although it has a somewhat different jizz to Ringed Plover, particularly when seen together. The two overlap on Baffin Island but do not hybridise, and this species migrates to coasts from southern USA to Patagonia, whereas Ringed Plover winters more inland.
