SEMI-PALMATED-SANDPIPER Calidris pusilla

Very similar to the next species, except in breeding plumage, it has recently been discovered that many of these wintering on the east coast of the USA are in fact Western Sandpipers. However it is still one of the most numerous waders on that coastline, reflected in the number of vagrants to the UK, which outnumber Westerns by a factor of about ten.
