Closely related to the previous species, this bird is distinguished in part by its legs,
inordinately long for a Charadrius spp., which give it the alternative
name Wirebird. Confined to remote St.Helena, it is now one of the most
critically endangered waders due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species
such as Indian Myna and feral cats. Sedentary, usually found on flat grassland or pasture and never on the
shore, there are no records of vagrancy.
