LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER Limnodromus scolopaceus

PREVIOUS

An annual visitor to Britain with many long-staying and returning birds, usually on fresh or brackish pools rather than coastal areas. Migrants however, such as the juvenile bird on the Hayle Estuary, will often use intertidal areas, the preferred habitat of Short-billed, so location is an unreliable indicator of species. In their usual range may form small flocks, whereas Short-billed tend to form large flocks.
