One of the hardest Australian waders to track down, a bird of the dry arid outback regions. In addition, as with
so many outback species it is nomadic in response to rainfall. It was only on our fifth trip that we eventually caught up with some, and that on an organised tour.
However, there had been recent rain in the area we were passing through and everything was "greening up". Result- a flock of 230, which was the largest our
leader had ever heard of.
