Depending on your taxonomic viewpoint there are from two to seven species of Stilt in the world, some even lumping Black Stilt with the pied
species. This is the widespread Eurasian species, familiar to most British and European birders, which looks as if it is about to colonise England.
There has been earlier breeding, notably the 1987 Holme birds, but now global warming seems to point towards the establishment of regular breeders.
