Oystercatchers worldwide fall into two groups, pied and black, this is obviously the New World representative of the pied group, although others occur in southern South America. It occurs, primarily coastally, from Southern USA around most of South America, and although similar to Eurasian Oystercatcher is an unlikely vagrant, being less numerous and mainly sedentary. However recent colonists in New England migrate south, so there may be a chance.
