Breeding from Iceland to eastern Siberia and Sakhalin, in wetlands
within steppe and taiga belts, only the southermost part of the tundra is used. Icelandic birds, which are
slightly distinctive, nearly all winter in Scotland, Ireland and Norfolk, a few have bred in Scotland. Other birds
breed sporadically to the south of their core range, and vagrants have occurred in the USA.
