Many people's favourite duck. Although breeding across most of
Eurasia from northern Scandinavia eastwards, its overall population is quite low, although it is stable. South-east
England is on the edge of its winter range, and there are always a few around, numbers depend on the weather
conditions on the European continent, if freezing occurs wildfowl are pushed west and UK numbers increase. Climate
change may see us lose this beautiful visitor. Monotypic, male and female (redhead) are very different, but many
redheads are in fact immature males.
