Another monotypic family of "Sheldgeese", spread thinly
over a vast area from Venezuela to Northern Argentina, east of the Andes. A dry-season breeder, rarely found
in more than twos except for post-breeding moult gatherings of up to twenty. Males are aggresive toward others
in their territory. Tied to wetlands and rivers, but feed in the surrounding savanna, rarely swimming but
will perch in trees. These birds are taken in captivity as we have never seen one in the wild.
