ORINOCO GOOSE Neochen jubata

Another monotypic family of "Sheldgeese", spread thinly over a vast area from Venezuela to Northern Argentina, east of the Andes. A dry-season breeder, rarely found in more than twos except for post-breeding moult gatherings of up to twenty. Males are aggresive toward others in their territory. Tied to wetlands and rivers, but feed in the surrounding savanna, rarely swimming but will perch in trees. These birds are taken in captivity as we have never seen one in the wild.
