MEXICAN DUCK Anas diazi

Until very recently included in Mallard, it is apparently genetically distinct and closer to American Black Duck. Found mainly in central and northern Mexico it has recently extended its range to southern Arizona and New Mexico. However there are many intergrades and hybrids with Mallards, whilst the bird photographed has all the features of Mexican Duck there is a great liklehood that it is not genetically pure. This is the case with all US birds, and probably many in Mexico, it is currently impossible to assess the real situation.
