Family listers should note that this ugly bird represents a monotypic family, all
other ducks, geese and swans are in the family Anatidae. It is readily seen on a visit to Australia, where
large flocks are the norm, paricularly in northern areas, or if you like making life difficult they occur in Papua New Guinea.
All the photos here were taken in Queensland or Northern Territory, unlike most geese they will perch in trees, perhaps indicating
a closer relationship to whistling-ducks.
