Found across much of northern South America as far south as
northern Argentina, this duck is local and scattered everywhere, and migratory within its own range. It is
little studied, as it was one species with the next, until split in 2020. I have never photographed one in the wild,
these captive birds are just coming in to breeding plumage when the large fleshy "comb" will appear on the bill.
