SUBANTARCTIC SHEARWATER Puffinus elegans

A split from Little Shearwater, widely distributed and fairly common across the Southern Ocean. The biggest breeding station is on the Antipodes (a few on the Chathams), Tristan and Gough, and some on St. Paul. Dispersal is limited, many stay close to natal islands, but they are to be seen in the area around the Falklands, and the southern Humboldt Current off Chile. Often found in small flocks close to land.
