The Antipodean equivalent of Manx Shearwater, breeding in small colonies on virtually all predator-free New Zealand islands. Dispersing to coasts of Australia and north towards New Caledonia, it is far commoner than the similar Hutton's Shearwater, which only breeds in two known colonies in the Kaikoura Mountains, South Island.
