The most numerous "cookilaria", breeding in the Southwest Pacific from the Chathams north, and
dispersing northwards. A more recent colony has been established on Round Island, off Mauritius. The broad black diagonal bar on the underwing gives it
the name, this and the grey cap and collar are diagnostic.
Fairly common north of New Zealand, the birds on Norfolk Island nest under the resident's houses!
