BERMUDA PETREL or CAHOW Pterodroma cahow

I was lucky enough to visit Bermuda and Nonsuch Island in 2022 with Bob Flood, where we saw a number of Cahows, including in hand whilst Jeremy Madeiros was weighing them. Driven to near extinction and rediscovered in 1951, the species has recovered to endangered status, with 131 pairs in 2019. A bird has attended a burrow on the Azores in 2002, 3 and 6, so eventually it may spread. It turns out that a major predator was White-tailed Tropicbird, and artificial burrows are now constructed that are too small for tropicbirds to enter, which has helped the recovery programme considerably. The only other way to see them is on a North Carolina pelagic, but only a few are seen each year, so many trips may be necessary.
